Training
To prepare for the race, consider doing the following:
- Warm-ups and Stretching: Always warm up and stretch before you exercise.
- Run and/or walk: Train for the conditions of the race. Run or walk in conditions similar to the race. Run or walk in the sandy and hilly terrain. The race will be 3.1 miles so your goal should be to gradually increase your distance up to 6 miles. Remember, most of the race you will be wet. If possible, run or walk through shallow ponds or pools–or soak yourself, and then run or walk.
- Strength training: Pull-ups, pushups, sit ups, leg extensions, and back extensions.
(Note: Always check with your physician before beginning any exercise program.)

What to Wear for The Mud Run
- Head: Wear nothing. (Anything worn on the head will most likely be lost during the race.)
- Body: Polyester T-shirts (They will weigh less than other materials when they get wet).
- Legs: 100% nylon hiking pants or shorts with Spandex shorts under neath. (Military style pants and cotton pants will weigh you down and cause chafing.)
- Feet: Cheap, light-weight hiking boots with wool socks, or mesh running shoes with thin running socks that do not soak up water. Note: double-knot your shoes. (Normal running shoes may be pulled off your feet in the mud.)
- Bring a change of clothes (including shoes).

We apologize; we will not be able to have mud volleyball this year. The city of Barstow and the Barstow Mud Run committee have done thorough research to find a suitable location for the mud volleyball courts. We could not locate the courts inside the Sportspark as originally planned do to underground electrical wiring. Most of the land outside of the Sportspark is privately owned and could not be used for the courts.
